Wilder: The Guardian Series
by

blurb2

All that Celeste Wilder ever wanted was to find someone who would sweep her off her feet like she had seen in countless romantic movies.

When she meets the gorgeous and mysterious Constantin brothers her senior year of high school, she gets much more than what she had bargained for. As they introduce her to an exciting supernatural world that she never imagined existed, she makes a startling discovery about her own family legacy and is forced to make a decision that will change her life forever.

excerpt1

Finally, she found the romance novel she wanted, the newest one from the series she had been obsessing over, and made her way to the checkout desk. She turned the corner and abruptly collided with someone. She dropped the book, which slapped against the marble floor with a disconcertingly loud thud, echoing through the cavernous room.

“Oh, I’m so sorry!” she blurted, without looking up as she bent down to pick it up. As she stood back up, her heart skipped a beat. Before her stood a towering, well-built young man with wavy, raven hair, chiseled jaw, and eyes as blue as the summer sky. Celeste felt her cheeks grow hot. Embarrassed, she flushed even redder.

“No problem. Sorry, I should have been watching where you were going, I guess,” the stranger said, eyes twinkling.

Looking into those deep blue eyes, Celeste was completely at a loss for words. She watched helplessly as he walked away, disappearing further into the library.

author-interview1

G.K. De Rosa

Featured Book: Wilder: The Guardian Series

Hi all! I have to start off by saying I’m so glad this isn’t an in-person interview or else you’d be seeing the huge bags under my eyes from all the sleepless nights I’ve been currently having. Nope it’s not from spending hours at the computer writing – I like to think of them as my new mom badges of courage J I thought writing was hard until I had a baby! So there’s a little bit about my personal life and now onto the fun bookish stuff.

How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?
Technically speaking I’m pretty new to writing as I just wrote my first novel, Wilder in 2015. But when I was younger I used to love my Literature and English classes and wrote many essays, short stories, poems, etc. not to mention I did a ton of reading. I guess I got back into writing when I moved to NYC and started a restaurant review blog – food is my other passion J
It reminded me how much I loved writing and then when I moved back to Florida (my hometown), I felt the creative juices flowing and decided to write a novel. It was really on a whim, I just sat down at my laptop and started typing.

How did you come up with this storyline?
I’ve always been a fan of YA novels so that was a given, and I’m a total romantic at heart so there had to be some cute love story. Then coupled with my fascination of all supernatural TV shows, the idea for Wilder was born. I grew up watching Buffy The Vampire Slayer (tv show, not movie), Angel, and Charmed then got into The Vampire Diaries and True Blood. I’m a huge TVD fan and love the Elena and Damon storyline which is where I got a lot of inspiration for Celeste and (*spoiler*). But I didn’t want Celeste to just be some powerless girl, I wanted her to be the kick-butt heroine.

What are the best and the worst aspects of writing?
The best is definitely the ability to get lost in your imagination. It’s such a cathartic experience to create characters and worlds that are instilled with bits and pieces of your own life. The worst is probably the editing! Going back over and over again until it’s perfect – which we all know it never is.

What inspires you to write?
My over-active 15 year old imagination. It’s just so much fun for me and I absolutely love it!

How did you conduct your research for Wilder: The Guardian Series?
Luckily I didn’t have to do much research for Wilder. That’s the beauty of fantasy, it doesn’t have to be based on anything real. I was quite familiar with the vampire folklore and I added a few twists here and there. The Guardian mythology was also something I created so again not much research involved. In subsequent books in the series my main characters travel to various European locations that I’ve visited so again it’s all from my personal experiences.

What are 3 of your favorite quotes from Wilder: The Guardian Series?
Ooh that’s a tough one! The most popular quote according to my readers is:
~ “Roman inhaled deeply as she walked in, her scent intoxicating. He could hear her heart racing and the blood pumping through her veins.”
And here are two of my favorites – of course they’re lovey dovey ones:
~ “You are the one that needs to be careful Roman. You are falling in love with her.”
~ “She smiled looking into his deep blue eyes feeling as though she were being swallowed up inside of them – wanting to be.”

More Favorites from Wilder: The Guardian Series:
A favorite excerpt:
Finally, she found the romance novel she wanted, the newest one from the series she had been obsessing over, and made her way to the checkout desk. She turned the corner and abruptly collided with someone. She dropped the book, which slapped against the marble floor with a disconcertingly loud thud, echoing through the cavernous room.
“Oh, I’m so sorry!” she blurted, without looking up as she bent down to pick it up. As she stood back up, her heart skipped a beat. Looking into those deep blue eyes, Celeste was completely at a loss for words. She watched helplessly as he walked away, disappearing further into the library.

What would your friends say is your best quality?
Probably my perpetually happy personality. I’m generally smiling and an easy going person. I love to laugh and have fun. Why spend your life being so serious all the time?

Are reader reviews important to you?
Absolutely! As an author it’s the only way to get feedback from your readers. Sometimes reviews can be harsh, but that’s how you become a better writer.

What do you do when you don’t write?
I watch way too many TV shows! Well let me backtrack, I used to anyway. Now that I have a three month old, I spend every waking moment with him. I also have a German shepherd who was my first baby – our fur baby if you will and I love going on walks with him and my husband or sitting on the balcony in the sun.

Tell us about your other books?
I finished the entire Guardian Series in July. There are 4 books in total – Wilder, Wilder Destiny, Wilder Revelation and Wilder Legacy plus a novella Finding Wilder. Writing the last book was bitter sweet, I didn’t want it to end. The characters became like family to me and not writing about them anymore made me sad. And so I’ve decided to start on a spin-off series in the next few months. I’m super excited!

If you could share one thing about yourself that you would like readers to know what would it be?
This is just a little something fun – as I mentioned I’m a huge Vampire Diaries fan and I totally love Ian Somerhalder (my husband is totally not jealous), who plays Damon Salvatore. So my friend and I went to a TVD convention right before I published Wilder and I brought a copy to give to Ian as a gift since it was his character and show that inspired my book. He was such a sweetheart and was really appreciative when I gave it to him and he asked me to sign it for him. So my first signature as an author was to Ian Somerhalder! And we even took pictures with him and Wilder

Thank you for this great interview and a huge thank you to all of my Wilder fans out there. Writing Wilder was the most fun I’ve ever had and the fact that I am now able to make a career out of it is incredible. It’s proof that you can really love what you do. So everyone out there, follow your dreams and work hard and they’ll become a reality. And of course go buy the Dark Legends collection – there are so many amazing authors and stories that you won’t want to miss out on!

From an early age, G.K. De Rosa showed a passion for reading and a very vivid imagination. She was instilled with a love of storytelling by exemplary teachers in her early years of Catholic school and that first love was never forgotten. Though she pursued a degree in International Business from the University of Florida, she eventually came back to her creative writing roots years later. Drawn to young adult novels and being an eternal romantic at heart, an urban fantasy romance was a natural choice for her debut series. She currently lives in South Florida with her real life Prince Charming and their newborn as well as a fur baby, Nico, the German shepherd.

blurb2

Mikhail Anton Ray: I needed her to fulfill my destiny but she became my life.

Leana Iyeroy: I’ll never submit to a vampire or another shifter – but he is so much more than either.

Micah must mate with wolf-shifter Leana to harness their collective energies, and overcome the vampire built mind-net that has infiltrated the humans robbing them of their emotions. But when Leana’s ward is kidnapped and used against them, the future of humanity is at stake.

excerpt1

Mikhail looks at the shifter girl as she passes by him, so close that if he put out his hand he can touch her cheek. Touch that skin shining with sweat, and pale under her tan as if it’s taking all she has just to keep the pain at bay.

She adjusts the strap of the scabbard that crosses between her breasts, and his eyes fall on the rise-fall-rise of her chest. Over the swell of the vest that stretches tight across, outlining her nipples.

And despite the fact that she doesn’t even notice him, despite the fact that he’s surrounded by jostling crowds, Mikhail finds himself aroused.

Heat twists his gut with such suddenness that he gasps.

It’s the second time he’s surprised himself in the space of an hour. The first was when he’d seen the girl fall to the ground in the cage… and not move.

He was sure she’d be up on her feet and downing her sword at the brute hybrid coming at her, but she hadn’t.

She’d just lain there still, so still he’d been sure she had been hurt badly or worse that she’d been killed. And before he could stop himself, before he’d even known what he’d been doing he’d run through the crowd, breaking through to the front and then he’d felled the guard at the entrance to the cage with one blow. Had taken the keys from him, unlocked the gate, slammed it behind him and had run towards the fallen figure all in a matter of seconds.

As he’d leant over her she’d moaned and something tightly clenched inside him had relaxed.

She was alive.

author-interview1

Laxmi Hariharan

Featured Book: Redemption

Hello from London 🙂

Hello and welcome, Laxmi; so nice to have you here. How long have you been a writer and how did you come to writing?
I’ve been writing since very young and with intent from 2003. Published my first book in 2011

How did you come up with this storyline?
I wanted to write a paranormal story with a difference. Set in a futuristic Bombay where I grew up, dystopian, yet intense and romantic. Borrowing from the threads of Indian mythology yet spanning both Eastern and Western cultures.

What are the best and the worst aspects of writing?
Writing helps me plumb the depths of my consciousness. By understanding character motivations I understand my own.

What inspires you to write?
The ‘aha’ moment from breaking a character and rebuilding him or her back and understanding why they do what they do. And hence understanding why I do what I do in life.

How did you conduct your research for Redemption?
I look for the key emotion that will be the theme of the book. In this case it was Leana and Mikhail finding Redemption. Leana putting an end to the cycle or the curse that has plagued her ancestral line for centuries.

What are 3 of your favorite quotes from Redemption?
Opening of Redemption is my fave: One of us is going to die. He looks at me, the beast. Wolf. Man. Wolf? He’s both. He’s neither. He’s just like me.

More Favorites from Redemption:
I’ll give you a poem from Feral, the first book in this series for the main character of Feral and later Taken is a soldier poet You
are the only person I wish I had never met. I suspect if you knew you might have more respect for me now than you did then.

So strike a fracture through this glass this view this thing that shimmers like doubt between us, break it apart with your hands.

What would your friends say is your best quality?
My persistence

Are reader reviews important to you?
Yes they are hugely important in discoverability especially on Amazon. But I am too scared to look at them. I don’t want to get too demotivated by the not great ones or too affected by praise either. So instead I look for feedback from my beta readers who are amazing.

What do you do when you don’t write?
I like to be active – work out, yoga, walking in London and gardening and spending time with my film maker husband watching films and series.

Tell us about your other books?
Feral the first in the Many Lives Series is my favorite. About Maya a wolf girl who leaves her mate Luke to go in search of her blood family. Only to uncover secrets.

If you could share one thing about yourself that you would like readers to know what would it be?
That I hope my words will move them and help them understand themselves better. That I hope they will see a bit of themselves in my characters.

I hope you’ll read Feral the first book in this series. If you join my newsletter you’ll get Feral for free.

New Release – The Ninth Hunter by Anna Hub

NEW RELEASE

The Ninth Hunter – A Standalone Paranormal Thriller

Anna Hub

Limited time release price – 99c. Read it for FREE on Kindle Unlimited.

The Ninth Hunter ebook cover

These weren’t ghosts of the dead with unfinished business. They were something far more sinister.

Daniel Barrow is a ghost hunter bound to a life of misery; protecting the world from ghosts by killing their human hosts. He knows the rules: mark the targets, plot the crime scenes, and then murder those beyond saving. Daniel’s safe in his rituals—until he meets Faye Michaels.

Faye isn’t his average target and her ghosts threaten to destroy everything he has worked for. When his ritual goes wrong, Daniel must create an uneasy alliance with the woman he intended to kill. But the deeper they dig, the closer they get to a dangerous secret that will change their lives forever.

Daniel must make a choice: fulfil his duty, or turn his back on those he has come to trust. Can the truth lead him to salvation?

Excerpt

This was uncharted territory. In all his years of ghost hunting he’d always taken solace in the fact that the ghosts couldn’t physically reach him. Now the rules didn’t stand and he had to be prepared for anything.

Daniel shut the door gently in the hope they wouldn’t be interrupted. He took a mirror from his pocket and searched for the ghosts. They had to know he had arrived but there was no sign of them yet. Perhaps they had a more calculated approach this time. One thing was certain—they wouldn’t let him kill Faye without a fight.

A groan sounded behind the curtain and his throat dried out. He’d never had to face a victim after he’d attacked them and it wasn’t just that he feared the girl’s reaction; he didn’t know exactly how it would make him feel.

He dropped the tablet into the medicine cup and pulled the curtain aside. Faye was asleep with the bed propped up to prevent her neck extending too far. A thick bandage covered her wound. The surrounding skin a mix of yellow and purple. Daniel remembered the way her skin had split beneath his knife, the thought creating a sense of heaviness in his chest.

Faye’s eyes shot open, almost as though she sensed his anxiety, her breath rapid in the otherwise silent room. At first, Daniel couldn’t move, sure she was about to scream. Instead she blinked, her eyes glassy from medication.

He swallowed. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you.”

Could he pull his blade out faster than she could call for help? She stared and he waited, each beat of his heart emphasising the slow seconds as the pressure in Daniel’s throat built up, spreading all the way to his jaw. He had to distract her, but the sight of her blue—and somehow bottomless—eyes froze him.

For one small moment he was moved. He wanted to whisper an apology, to have her know she hadn’t done anything wrong—it wasn’t her fault she was haunted. But there was no space for thoughts like that; he had to concentrate on his task.

He forced a smile to his lips. “I’m on a medication round, thought I’d see how you were.”

Faye didn’t answer. She looked to the window, the reflection showing two ghosts hovering on either side of her.

“Do you feel okay?” he asked, searching for a clue of what might be going through her head.

Faye’s voice came out hoarse. “A little sick.”

Perhaps she didn’t remember him after all. Daniel tried to relax his posture as he took the chart from the end of the bed. Hopefully the drug he was about to give her wouldn’t interact too badly with the morphine recorded on her medication chart. Still, he had to take the chance. He didn’t want her revealing anything to the police—sometimes the smallest piece of information was all they needed to catch a killer.

“This tablet will help with the nausea.”

Faye watched as he poured water into her cup, her expression filled with turmoil. He’d always found it easy to play whatever part he needed, but this situation was like nothing he’d experienced before. He’d never felt more like a killer. If she had her wits about her she might have recognised his discomfort but he forced a smile once more and pushed the cup closer. She looked at him, her eyes cautious before she swallowed the tablet and took a drink.

Daniel picked up the water jug. “I’ll fill this up.”

He turned the tap in the bathroom and lifted his gaze to the mirror, startled to see a ghost standing right behind him. Despite the bristle of hair and the deep-rooted feeling that he wasn’t safe, the energy reminded him of what it was like to be human. The rest of the time he was just a shell.

Opaque skin barely covered the ghost’s veins and her detailed form made her more human-like than the others. Her eyes weren’t the regular white, but rather the deep blue of night, and her hair a harsh white instead of mottled brown. At first he was bewitched, her edges shimmering as she leaned in and brushed against his shoulder. He jolted; disturbed by the distance she’d travelled away from Faye. This must have been what Lamont spoke about. They weren’t bound by rules anymore. Daniel turned to the side, keeping his eyes on the mirror as the hair on his arms lifted and he thought about all the times a ghost had pulled him through the veil. He couldn’t let that happen now; these ghosts were too powerful to risk entering their realm.

He pressed one hand against the knife at his waist as he reached out to touch her. A chill spread up his hand before the creature flashed and disappeared. He waited to see if she would come back, but the mirror showed only his own pale face and an empty bathroom behind him.

Daniel paused to force away memories from when he was haunted. The ghost had reminded him how it felt to have your every move tracked, the rushing in your veins when you knew they were behind you. He splashed water on his face. Everything about this job felt wrong. He was losing himself, and if he didn’t figure something out soon, Faye Michaels would be his undoing.

Q & A with the author

Can you start by telling us what inspired you to write this book?

When I finished working on my last set of books, The Shadow Series, I was looking for a new story to write. At the time I was reading a lot of ghost stories, like the amazing, Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake, and The Graveyard Queen Series by Amanda Stevens. I really loved their style of combining ghosts with unique plots I hadn’t come across before. That was exactly what I wanted to create; a story that no one had ever read.

Creating my own mythology has been incredibly challenging, but I’m glad this book stands apart from others in its genre.

Why would readers like this book?

I think The Ninth Hunter appeals to a wide variety of readers. Although I classify the book as a standalone paranormal thriller for adults, I think it’s also suited to a younger audience. Young adult and new adult are my favourite to read and that’s what I had in mind when I wrote this book. The characters are a little too mature to fit into that category but younger readers will still be able to identify with the main character’s struggle for identity.

I’m a big fan of mixed genres so this book has something for everyone. It’s a fast-paced, action-packed thriller but I’ve also added a touch of romance, a pinch of horror and an unusual plot, which could almost pass as fantasy.

Who was your favourite character to write?

The main character, Daniel Barrow, wins this hands down! He’s such a complex guy, and probably the first murderer you’ll genuinely feel sorry for. Although he’s done terrible things, he’s trapped in a life of misery and at the core, he wants to do the right thing. He’s an incredibly flawed hero (anti-hero even?), but he’s so good at his job which makes him a complete badass at the same time. While I truly love, Faye, his strong female sidekick, I think her strength somehow adds to Daniel’s vulnerability and that only makes me love him more.

And finally, what does it mean to you, to have this book published?

Although I’ve previously published a set of four paranormal/fantasy novels, this book is by far my favourite. It’s definitely the most challenging story I’ve written and it’s been a long time in the making, but I’m hoping I’ve captured a unique story and created characters that readers will love.
